I love conversations with six-year-olds

We had a pretty spectacular show of rainbows this evening as a bunch of showers passed through. The younger boy was musing how we'd seen a rainbow in western ND earlier this summer. He said, "I knew it! The rainbow started there and ends in Fargo!"

A few minutes later:
Younger son (YS): Ow! Ow!
Me: What's wrong?
YS: The back of my neck hurts.
Me: Why?
YS: Because there's gum stuck to it.
Me: Why did you do that?
YS: Because I wanted to see what it would do.

I'm not sure what he thought it would do. We spent about an hour using vinegar to rub it out of the peach fuzz on the back of his neck, which was pretty red by the time we finished.

Scientist in the making. Next he'll be taking apart the lawn mower. Or a hair dryer. Ouch. Didn't he think it would hurt? Silly boy.

I used to do things like that too. I even went so far as to get really bad grades one marking period in third grade, just to see what it felt like. My parents accepted that as my reason, and my grades went back up on the next report card.

Kids are so fun, aren't they?
